Alan Manning divides his time between the practice of law and serving as the firm’s President and Managing Shareholder. His practice focuses on real estate, finance, business transactions, general corporate and tax matters. He represents banks and other financial institutions, institutional and private investors, developers, commercial landlords and tenants, physician and other medical practices, and manufacturing, service, and technology companies. Alan frequently acts as local counsel for out-of-state clients and law firms on real estate and business transactions, including the issuance of opinion letters on matters of Florida law. He is also an agent for several national and local title insurance companies.
Alan earned his B.S., summa cum laude, in Business Administration from the University of Southern California in 1982, and his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1986, where he was an editor of the law review and served as an extern to Justice Malcolm Lucas of the California Supreme Court. Alan also earned an M.A. in History from the University of West Florida. Before joining Clark Partington in Pensacola in 1997, he practiced for 11 years in the Orange County and Los Angeles offices of the international law firm of Paul Hastings.
He is a member of the Florida, Alabama, and California Bars, and is admitted to practice before the Ninth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals and the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Florida and the Southern District of California.
Alan is A-V rated (Preeminent) by Martindale-Hubbell, was selected as a Florida Super Lawyer, served as Chairman of the Business and Corporate Law Section of the Orange County (California) Bar Association, and has been a frequent panelist at continuing legal education seminars. Alan was also Board Certified in Real Estate by the Florida Bar from 2003-2013, before taking a sabbatical to teach and write. He has been involved in a number of community and charitable organizations, including serving, by appointment of the Bishop, on the Diocesan Commission for Catholic Schools (Catholic School Board) for the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee from 2000-2003.
In his spare time, Alan is a recognized presidential historian and author. His book, Father Lincoln: The Untold Story of Abraham Lincoln and His Boys (Lyons Press, 2016) reached #18 on the Amazon Bestseller List for Civil War era books and was favorably reviewed in a number of publications, including the Wall Street Journal. Alan is an expert on presidential biographies, elections, and Constitutional powers of the presidency, and is a frequent speaker on these topics. He serves as an adjunct in the Department of History at the University of West Florida, where he teaches classes in American history.
