April 22, 2022 –
It’s Earth Day 2022! Clark Partington’s Environmental and Land Use Law section gives a shout out to The E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center and the outstanding work they do to educate children on the importance of biodiversity, to promote sustainability, and to encourage conservation, preservation, and restoration of ecosystems. The Center is located on Nokuse Plantation, a 55,000 acre private nature preserve located in Walton County in northwest Florida; the largest private conservation project east of the Mississippi River.
Recently, some of our Firm’s attorneys hiked a portion of the Florida Trail, that bisects Nokuse conservation lands, with its Director, Dr. Matt Aresco. Dr. Aresco explained how they converted pine plantations and agricultural areas back to the native longleaf pine-wiregrass ecosystem, conducting prescribed burns, and re-establishing and augmenting populations of rare species. A highlight of his work at Nokuse Plantation is a gopher tortoise restoration project, which has provided safe refuge on the preserve for over 4,000 gopher tortoises relocated from sites throughout Florida slated for development.
Clark Partington is proud to serve clients, like Nokuse Plantation, who are actively working to preserve our Northwest Florida natural areas.
