Nine Attorneys Selected To 2023 Florida Super Lawyers & Rising Stars List

Douglas A. Bates
Super Lawyer, 2014-2023; Rising Star, 2009-2013

Doug is a shareholder in the Firm’s commercial litigation department. His practice is focused on commercial and real estate litigation, with a large focus on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights cases. He has handled insolvency matters, distressed business situations, and special asset cases across the state of Florida and the United States.

This is Doug’s 10th year to be included in the Florida Super Lawyers List, and, additionally, it is the 2nd consecutive year he has been recognized in the Top 100: Florida Super Lawyers list.

In addition to being selected to Florida Trend’s Legal Elite and Florida Super Lawyers, since 2012 Doug has consistently received recognition and ranking by Chambers USA for his legal knowledge, experience, and client service in the area of “Bankruptcy Restructuring for North and Central Florida.” Doug is also a member of the Clark Partington bankruptcy team that consistently receives recognition by Best Law Firms as Metropolitan Tier 1 Firm in Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization.

Since July 1, 2022, Doug has served as Chair of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar. In 2019, he was recognized as the Section’s Member of the Year, and has proudly served for over 15 years on the Section’s Executive Council. Doug is the President-Elect of Pensacola Sports Board of Directors, and the past President of Pensacola State College Foundation Board of Governors. He also stays active in numerous other local, statewide, and national organizations.

Jeremy C. Branning
Super Lawyer, 2017-2023; Rising Star, 2010-2016

Jeremy is a shareholder in the Firm’s general litigation department. His years of litigation experience and position on the Executive Council of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar have allowed him to work with lawyers and professionals across the state, in a wide variety of cases. He knows the issues and challenges of litigation. Jeremy’s litigation practice includes a specialization and focus on litigation involving professionals and professional service providers, including physicians, other healthcare professionals, attorneys, architects, and engineers, among others. Jeremy’s current roles with the Florida Bar include serving a third term as the First Circuit’s Representative on the Florida Bar Board of Governors and serving on the Executive Council of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar.

Megan F. Fry
Super Lawyer, 2023; Rising Star, 2012-2022

Megan F. Fry is a shareholder in the Firm’s commercial litigation department who focuses primarily on business and real estate litigation in state and federal courts in Florida and Alabama. She represents title insurers and their insureds, real estate owners, individuals and financial institutions in all types of litigation matters, including real property disputes, title liability and commercial real estate defaults. Her practice also focuses on business dissolution, shareholder disputes and general commercial litigation.

Megan currently serves on the UWF Foundation Board of Trustees, as well as Florida’s Great Northwest Board of Directors. Additionally, she is immediate past president of the Board of Directors for the Children’s Home Society of Florida – Western Division and past president of NAIOP Northwest Florida.

Megan has been repeatedly recognized for her outstanding leadership abilities by several prestigious organizations. She has served as a member of Leadership Florida’s Connect Class VIII (2017), as well as Leadership Pensacola’s Class of 2014. In 2010, Megan was named a “Rising Star” by Pensacola’s Independent Weekly, and was honored as “2018 Developing Leader of the Year” by NAIOP’s Northwest Florida Chapter.

Daniel E. Harrell
Super Lawyer, 2021-2023; Rising Star, 2012-2017

Daniel is a shareholder in the Firm’s general litigation department. His practice focuses primarily on labor and employment litigation and counseling, and non-compete and restrictive covenant litigation.

Daniel’s labor and employment experience includes: Title VII actions involving race, gender and national origin discrimination, as well as sexual harassment, hostile work environment, constructive discharge and retaliation claims; claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act; Fair Labor Standards Act single-plaintiff and collective actions; ERISA actions alleging breaches of fiduciary duties; and union negotiations, disputes and arbitrations. Daniel regularly provides day-to-day advice and counseling to clients regarding compliance with various state and federal employment laws.

Between 2019 and 2022, Daniel served on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the First Judicial Circuit of Florida. He also previously served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for Episcopal Day School in Pensacola, and is currently serving as President of the Pensacola Chapter of the Washington and Lee University Alumni Association.

Charles F. James, IV, Transactional Department Chair
Super Lawyer, 2023

Charles is a shareholder and Chair of the Firm’s transactional department. He is also a Board Certified Real Estate attorney, licensed to practice law in Florida and Alabama. Charles provides reasoned and efficient analysis in real estate development, finance, and corporate transactions.

Most recently, Charles was one of 18 leaders who participated in the inaugural Leadership Northwest Florida class, organized by Florida’s Great Northwest (FGNW) Foundation, focused on regional collaboration through community, content and connection.

Bruce D. Partington, General Litigation Department Chair
Super Lawyer, 2006-2023

Bruce is a shareholder and Chair of the Firm’s general litigation department. As a Board Certified Construction Lawyer, his practice is largely devoted to this area as well as other commercial, real property, and insurance litigation. Partington regularly represents those involved with the construction and development process such as private owners and developers, design professionals, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. Bruce is also a Charter Fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America (CLSA), and was served on The Florida Bar’s Construction Law Certification Committee from 2015-2021. Most notably, in 2023, The Florida Bar Construction Law Institute honored Bruce with its “Lifetime Achievement Award,” recognizing him for a lifetime of exemplary dedication and mentoring, and commitment to maintaining the very highest level of professional reputation and integrity.”

Partington is an AV rated attorney who has been repeatedly named to the Super Lawyers list and recognized as Florida Trend Legal Elite. Bruce has also been an active member of the Rotary Club of Pensacola since 1998, and most recently served as the Club’s President. Additionally, in January, Bruce was one of eight Pensacola honorees to be recognized with a 2023 Living the Dream award, an honor presented to select local leaders who carry the torch of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Legacy by sharing his vision and advocating for racial equality.

This is Bruce’s 18th year to be included in the Florida Super Lawyers List.

Scott A. Remington
Super Lawyer, 2016-2023

Scott is a shareholder in the Firm’s commercial litigation department. He is an AV rated attorney, also recognized by Florida Trend as a Legal Elite, practicing in the areas of real property and probate litigation, commercial litigation, business and banking, sports law, and shareholder disputes.

Between 2013 and 2022, Remington served as President and Managing Shareholder of the Firm; and in that role he was responsible for day-to-day oversight of the Firm’s offices and approximately 90 employees stretching across the Gulf Coast region.

Scott currently serves as General Legal Counsel for Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc. and for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Additionally, Scott serves on Florida State University College of Law’s Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. Scott is active in the Episcopal Church serving as Florida Chancellor for the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast.

Alfred J. Lojo
Rising Star, 2019-2023

Alfred, Of Counsel, is an attorney in the Firm’s transaction department where he concentrates in real estate, taxation, corporate law, business transactions, probate, and estate planning. He provides a detailed yet practical approach when assisting clients with complex matters ranging from real estate development to the purchase or sale of a business. Alfred also frequently works with clients to design and implement strategies to carry out their estate planning or asset protection objectives.

Glenn E. Lovett
Rising Star, 2021-2023

Glenn E. Lovett is a shareholder in the Firm’s transaction department. His practice areas include business law and health law. Glenn’s business and corporate practice focuses on asset (or stock) sales and acquisitions, private placements, corporate formation and governance, intellectual property, and contract drafting and review. His health law practice focuses on providing guidance to practitioners, group practices, clinical study organizations, and regulated facilities on various state and federal issues, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), the “Stark” law, the “Anti-kickback” statute, Medicare, Medicaid, and relevant portions of the federal and state False Claims Acts.
