Jim Green explains the law regarding the media’s rights in high profile criminal proceedings

Recently, criminal defendant, Mary Rice, sought to limit the media’s right of access to her criminal proceedings. The Pensacola News Journal and WEAR TV retained Clark Partington to respond to the defendant’s request.  After filing a motion to intervene and a memorandum of law in opposition to the defendant’s requested limitations, the defendant dropped most of her requests, asking only that one local law enforcement official agree to stop making comments about the facts of the case.  As a result there is no order limiting the press or the public’s right to access the proceedings.
